Airbags are the crucial part in anyone’s safety in cars. Airbags act as a protective pillow to passengers if the car hits something or in any calamity like situation. Airbag, since their introduction are growing in usage and are becoming more advanced and intelligent. There are mostly seven air bags in every standard car and there is a control module to control it. Normally the airbags are placed in the front part of the car near the steering wheel and on both sides near the windows. The control module is connected to the car’s electronic systems and gives notifications about its condition through blinking of a specific light. If there is any problem in your airbag system then it will show then it will show a red light on your car dashboard. Every time you turn on the car, the systems run a check and if everything is all right then the light goes off in some seconds but if it stays there, then the module needs to troubleshoot or reset with an airbag module reset service. There are different indicators of light for different notifications like if the airbag is not deploying right, it will show notification of being unable of deploying, if the module is malfunctioning then it will show a notification at the time of system check etc. If you realize that the notification light itself is showing wrong notification despite there is no problem in module, then you will have the reset the light notifications. Resetting the airbag light is really easy, you can even do it in your home garage, saving you the time and money to go to a mechanic. The airbag light is also called as Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) light. You will have to reset the light each time after the bags are deployed or new module is installed or there is malfunctioning in the system. To reset the airbag light, first insert the key to the car switch to “on” then wait for the airbag light to be turned on, it will be on for 7 seconds and then it will turn off. Then immediately turn the key to “off” position. Repeat the same for 2 more times. Then start the engine and you will see that the light will show for 7 seconds and then turn off and be off. The airbag light has been reset.
Though the above is the standard procedure for resetting airbag light in most of the cars, the development of advanced airbag modules has led to modification of this procedure in different ones for different cars. So it is better that you check with your airbag manual or check with your manufacturing company about resetting the module. Always check for correct procedure before resetting as wrong steps may lead to damaging the system or an unexpected result. You can take help of a mechanic (though very unlikely) to do the steps or take the help of internet to found out the correct steps to reset the airbag light. It is always better to take help if you are not sure.
